Artan Zhuri was born in Korçë, Albania, where he started studying violoncello at the age of six in Music School "Tefta Tashko Koço". He graduated "with Distinction" and earned his Artist’s Certificate in cello performance from Academy of Arts in Tirana, Albania.
Mr. Zhuri has enjoyed a varied and distinguished music career. Early in his career he performed solo, orchestral, and chamber music in various countries including, Albania, Greece, Bulgaria, Italy, Germany, and Russia. He was a founding member of "Anima" piano trio, and has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors throughout his performing career. After moving to the United States, Mr. Zhuri has been equally active as a recitalist, chamber musician, and orchestra member in the states of Texas and Louisiana. He is a highly respected member of the Texas Music Education Association and the Houston Professional Musician Association.
He received his Texas Music Teacher certification Music All-level and Master of Fine Arts in Music from Texas Southern University.
In 2001, Mr. Zhuri performed at the premier of Dr. Daniel Adam’s composition "Dreamer’s Cartography" for cello and piano at the American Compositors Association Convention. His current position is an orchestra director as music educator in the Spring Branch ISD at Spring Oaks Middle School in Houston Texas.
Gezim Laro (Artist of Merit) has been Mr. Zhuri’s cello professor during his musical studies. His partners in chamber music have included pianists Genc Tukici, Anita Vezuli and Ida Tili (Trebicka).
Violinists have included Florian Vlashi, Hektor Qyteti, and Michael Fahey.
Mr. Zhuri lives with his wife Liliana, and his two children Ariana (6) and Andy (5).
