Biography

Vangjel Nina was born on November 11, 1961 in Tirana. He started his first lessons in violoncello at the age of seven at the Music School “Kongresi i Përmetit”, in Tirana (1968 - ’72).
He won a lot of competitions: for studying in the Art School of “Jordan Misja”, second prize in the “National Competition of new talent”, first erudition for the High Institute of Arts (from where he graduated with distinction in 1986), the “Encouraging prize” in the “National Competition” of violoncello and the second prize in the “National Competition of interpretation” of Albanians Composers.
He was associate Principal Cello at the Symphonic Orchestra of the Opera House in Tirana. At the same time he was a member of the String Quartet of the Opera House (1986 - ’91). With the String Quartet won the first prize at the “National Competition for Chamber Music” in 1989 in Durrës (Albania). They also performed in a Master - Class with the famous French conductor Pierre Dervaux who highly praised them. He was Principal Cello at the Symphonic Orchestra of the “Yehudi Menuhin Foundation” in France.
He was professor of violoncello and chamber music at the Academy of Arts, in Tirana.
He founded the string quartet “Alban - Quartett” which has performed in a series of concerts in Albania and Greece.
In Greece where he lives since 1992 he played with the Symphonic Orchestra of Radio - Television of Athens and he was the Principal Cello in the Orchestras “Baroque Athenaeum” (1993 - ’95), “Marsias” (1995 - ’97), Greek National Opera (2006 - ’08) and Cyprus Symphony Orchestra (2014).
He was a member of the String Quartet “+kinisis” (1998) and he founded the “Piano Quartetto Anima” (2001).
From 1996 - 2013 he was professor of violoncello and chamber music at the Municipal Music School in Lamia.
From 1993 - 2012 he was the Principal Cello in the “Orchestra of Colours”.
He has performed in a series of concerts with different ensembles of Chamber Music in Greece, Yugoslavia, Cyprus, U.S.A., Canada, United Kingdom, Austria, Spain, Hungary, Portugal, Italy, Turkey, France, Sweden, Holland, Albania and Germany.
He has also worked with several Greek musicians such as Hatzidakis, Theodorakis, Karidis, Hatzinikos, Apostolidis, Garoufalis, Leotsakos, Bakopoulos, Kouroupos, Athineos, Antoniou, Fidetzis, Karytinos, Kypourgos, Kotsiolis and Logiadis.
From 2013 he has been the Principal Cello in the "Athens Academica Orchestra".
From 2014 he has appointed professor of violoncello at the Athens Conservatoire and the Municipal Music School in Nikaia.
From 2015 he has a member of the String Quartet of the “Athens Conservatory”.
From 2016 he has associate Principal Cello at the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra.
