Gani Hyka was born on October 20, 1942 in Tirana, Albania.
He began his cello studies in the Artistic Lyceum "Jordan Misja" during 1953-1962, with prof. Matei Guralumi and after with prof. Ymer Skënderi.
In 1962 he was appointed cellist in the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet.
He continued his studies at the Academy of Arts in Tirana with Prof. Ymer Skënderi from 1970 until his graduation in 1976. He also worked as cello teacher for a period of ten years in the Artistic Lyceum "Jordan Misja" and the middle school of music "Kongresi Përmetit".
In 1983 he was appointed Principal cellist at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Tirana. He worked there until his retirement in 2003.
Working as principal cellist for the national orchestra he also performed many successful concerts abroad, mostly in Europe. During his career he was awarded with job medals and for his achievements as a cellist he was given the "Order of Naim Frashëri".
